Classes will be held once a month on Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. (breakfast will be served at 8:45 A.M., if you are interested) by Melanie Howard.
2016 dates are: 04/02/16, 05/14/16, 06/04/16, 07/09/16, 08/13/16, 09/10/16, 10/08/16, 11/12/16 and 12/10/16.
Melanie Howard, MSN, FNP, RNC, has been a Labor and Delivery Nurse at San Ramon Regional Medical Center for 12 years, and has been in Maternal Child Nursing for 31 years. Melanie has her Master's in Nursing with a double major in Advanced Clinical Practice and Nursing Education. Melanie is also a Nurse Practitioner, and is Certified in Obstetrical Nursing. Melanie loves what she does because every day that she goes to work at San Ramon she has the privilege to witness the miracle of life. Melanie promises that you will learn everything you need to know in order to prepare for this miraculous experience. Melanie's one day session is designed to prepare women and their partners for labor and delivery, and includes "Understanding Birth", a 72 page, 8 chapter Parent Guide for each couple to take home in order for them to review at their leisure. The course also includes a state of the art power point presentation with video clips that include couples having their first childbirth experience, epidural placement, animated clips that explain cervical dilation with the different stages of labor and much more. Included are also beautiful photos, inspiring quotes, illustrations, cartoons, clip art and music and audio clips for follow-along exercises. An animated illustration of the Cesarean delivery is also included, to help you better understand this delivery modality "just in case". An Anesthesiologist will be a guest speaker, followed by question and answer session about epidurals. Course content includes: signs of labor, when you should call the doctor, when you should go to the hospital, what happens during different stages of labor and how your partner can help you through the birthing process. Pain management options will also be discussed, including: breathing and relaxation techniques, IV pain medication and epidurals. Indications for Induction of Labor and Cesarean Section are addressed as well, along with what to expect during the post partum period and newborn procedures and care. In addition, each couple receives a second 50 page booklet "Mother and New Baby Care See What You Read Parent Guide" that includes a free website with 24/7, 6 months access with video clips so you can watch when you want. This will help to prepare you for postpartum and newborn care, and give breastfeeding guidance. The class will end with a tour of the Family Birthing Center at San Ramon. Breakfast will be served, along with snacks. You are guaranteed to learn a lot in this fun, relaxed environment. There will also be 2 raffle drawings at the end of class.

$175.00 per couple. Must pay two weeks in advance by Check, Money order or Pay Pal to reserve your place in class. Credit Cards are not accepted.
