Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), also known as Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), is a common circulatory condition among older adults in which narrowed or blocked arteries reduce blood flow to your limbs. Most commonly affecting the legs, it can cause severe pain, wounds that don't heal and tissue death that can lead to amputation. About Dr. Savarese: Joseph A. Savarese, MD, specializes in vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at Prime Vascular Institute, a vascular and endovascular surgery practice founded by Dr. Joseph Ricotta, National Medical Director for Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy for Tenet Healthcare. Dr. Savarese specializes in peripheral arterial disease, endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR), transcarotid artery repair (TCAR), angiography with angioplasty and stenting, arterial bypass surgery, limb salvage, mesenteric and renal disease, arteriovenous fistula for dialysis access, thrombosis/mechanical thrombectomy/embolization, varicose veins and venous disease, venus ablation and sclerotherapy, and wound care. Dr. Savarese is on-staff at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center and has an office in Palm Beach Gardens with Prime Vascular Institute. For his education and training, Dr. Savarese completed a fellowship in vascular surgery and endovascular therapy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR. Dr. Savarese also finished a residency in general surgery from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. For medical school, Dr. Savarese graduated from the Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, as well as obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. Dr. Savarese has published his research on vascular surgery and endovascular therapy in a peer reviewed medical journal and presented his findings at Grand Rounds presentations.
