With tragic mass casualty events becoming more prevalent in our society, many are left looking for a way to prepare and respond. Earlier this year, the Georgia Trauma Commission collaboratively launched the nationwide "Stop the Bleed" campaign in Georgia. The program puts knowledge gained by first responders and military into the hands of the public to help save lives by stopping uncontrolled bleeding in emergency situations. When bleeding is severe, it can kill within minutes, potentially before trained responders can arrive.
March 31, 2018 is National Stop the Bleed Day. In honor of National Stop the Bleed Day the Trauma program at Gwinnett Medical Center will offer a public class to teach the principles of the Stop the Bleed program. This class will include proper wound-packing techniques and tourniquet application. Our goal is to build resilience by educating and empowering all citizens to be aware of the simple steps that can be taken to stop or slow life threatening bleeding.
